Description

This trifle is a traditional Hungarian dessert, it's one of the most well known products of Hungarian confectionary. It’s made from three types of sponge (vanilla, chocolate and walnut) decorated with whipped cream, chopped walnut and chocolate sauce.

At the end of the 1950’s in a famous restaurant called “Gundel” the legendary head waiter Károly Gollerits came up with the dessert and the master confectioner József Béla Szőcs has created it first. With it, on the 1958 Brussel’s world fair he won technical awards.

He named the dessert after the “Gödöllői” hills’ most western part, form “Somlyo” where he lived for decades and where he later started his own confectionery. It was mistakenly named Somloi after someone in Brussels leaving out the “y” from “Somlyoi” therefore recorded as Somloi galuska in gastronomy.
