Description
One of the most famous desserts in Austrian cuisine is the Sacher cake.
The story of one of the world's most famous cakes began in 1832. Prince Metternich, Austria's chancellor at the time, was expecting important guests, so he asked his kitchen to prepare something truly dazzling for the evening. The head chef was ill, so the task fell largely on the shoulders of sixteen-year-old Franz Sacher. The young talent seized the moment and presented the most important creation of his life: a truly chocolatey sponge cake combined with apricot jam and a chocolate glaze.
The cake quickly became popular and caught the attention of the court, making Sacher's cake a favorite delicacy of the royal family in no time.
