Description

Marlenka (Russian: Медовик) is a honey cake of Russian origin, which Armenian version of the cake was popularized in Eastern Europe by a Czech company called Marlenka.

Its main ingredients are honey and condensed milk. It takes a long time to prepare, and the honey cream is placed between several layers of dough sheet, often flavored with walnuts and sprinkled with ground walnuts. The thin sheets harden when taken out of the oven, but the cream filling softens them.

According to tradition, this cake was created by a young chef in the 18th century who wanted to impress the Russian Empress Elizabeth. However, there are few records of the cake before the 20th century, it became popular during the Soviet period.
