Description
The Dobos cake is a traditional Hungarian sweet.
The creator of the Dobos cake was József C. Dobos (1847–1924), a famous Pest confectioner. When he made the dessert named after him in 1884, his goal was to make a cake that would remain consumable and enjoyable for a long time, even with the slightly backward refrigeration techniques of the age. He made the cake in 1884 and presented it to the general public for the first time in 1885, at the first Budapest National General Exhibition. Among her tasters were also Queen Elizabeth and Franz Joseph I. Dobos cake has become known throughout Europe.
Today many versions can be found, but according to tradition, the authentic Dobos Cake must be made with 5 layers of sponge cake that must be made individually and not cut from a single sponge cake, filled with a cream of butter and high quality chocolate and a final layer of sponge cake with caramel.
